Dorothy Marie (Goergen) Cummings, 87, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday, June 30, 2018, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin.

Dorothy was born Dec. 23, 1930, in Stacyville, Iowa, to Isadore and Mary (Schwartz) Goergen. She grew up on the family farm on the Minnesota/Iowa border. She graduated from Rose Creek High School.

On June 21, 1949, she was united in marriage to Thomas Cummings at St. John the Baptist Church in Johnsburg, Minnesota. They moved to Austin in 1949.

Dorothy was a life-long member of St. Augustine Church. She was a member of CCW and the Senior Center of Austin. She was a volunteer at Sacred Heart Nursing Home and Philomathian Religious Book and Gifts.

Dorothy was a dedicated homemaker for most of her life. She worked at Wallace’s and the Rose Creek and Sterling State Banks. She enjoyed baking and bowling. She was an excellent seamstress and loved to crochet and quilt. Most of all, she enjoyed time with her family and many friends.

Survivors include her daughters, Marsha (Jennifer Hess) Cummings, Judy (Mike) Quinn, Mary (Jerry) Miller, Kathy (Chuck) Warren and Tricia (Tom) Wiechmann; sons, Tom (Jane) Cummings and Bob (Lisa) Cummings; 15 grandchildren, Kelly (Joe), Laura (Jack), John (Sarah), Eric (Haley), Molly, Melissa (Joe), Katie, Colin (Kellie), Dalton, Evan, Gretchen, Megan, Alison, Brad (Daneka) and Dan (Acacia); 14 great-grandchildren with one more due in November; sister, Gladys (Jim) Hemann; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Goergen, Louise Goergen and Peg Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband; parents; father-in-law; mother-in-law; and brothers, Jerome, Kenneth and Marvin (in infancy).

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 6, 2018, at St. Edwards Catholic Church with Father James Steffes officiating. There will be a wake service where friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Mayer Funeral Home with a CCW rosary starting at 4 p.m. Friends may also pay their condolences one hour before the service on Friday at the church.
