Eunice Urlick, 83 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2018, at her home.
Eunice Erline Hammero was born Feb. 9, 1935, to Erling and Marjorie (Skjong) Hammero of Cottonwood County in rural Minnesota. On Feb. 7, 1959, she was united in marriage to James L. Urlick. James and Eunice Urlick resided in Austin, where they proudly raised a family of four children. Eunice was employed with the Austin Medical Clinic as a registered nurse for 27 years before retiring in 1998. She was a highly regarded professional in the healthcare field. In retirement, Eunice served as a volunteer for the Mower County Historical Society, the Paramount Theater, the Mower County Fair, American Legion Bingo and the Class of 1953 Reunion Committee. Eunice took pride in being frugal and modest, often clipping and sharing coupons with family and friends. She loved to cook and bake for anyone who brought an appetite and enjoyed good conversation. Eunice had remarkable trivia skills and she never started a crossword puzzle that she didn’t finish. Her sense of humor was remarkable and her smile infectious. Eunice found the greatest pleasure in serving others, and frequently offered her nursing skills to anyone in need. It was her family and friends’ honor to assist her as she faced a 16-month cancer fight with inspiring grace throughout. Eunice will be missed greatly by many and her impact on family as well as community will be felt for generations to come.
Eunice is survived by her husband, James L. Urlick, Austin; daughter Lori (Dan) VanBallegooyen, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; sons, James T. (Patty) Urlick, Austin, John Urlick, Austin, and Dan Urlick, Austin; grandchildren, Lydia (Brett) Smith, Emily VanBallegooyen, Stacy (Kyle) Henriksen, Michael (Ashley) Urlick, Ryan (Anna) Urlick and Joe Urlick; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Rice, Austin; brothers, Ernest (Marlene) Hammero, Austin, and Richard Hammero, New Ulm, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Larry Urlick, Hamilton, New Jersey; and sisters-in-law, Marge Urlick, Pipestone, Minnesota, and Ann (Jerry) Cook, Rochester, Minnesota.
