The Greyhounds lost 8-7 to the Beechar, Illinois Muskies in Illinois Saturday in an amateur baseball game.
The Greyhounds (2-9 overall) scored the first six runs over two and half innings, but it wasn’t enough as the Muskies belted three homers on the day.
“Their pitcher started out erratic and we scored three off of four walks in the first inning. We should’ve blown it open more,” Greyhounds manager John Frein said. “We had a feeling we were gonna keep scoring, but we kind of slowed down.”
The Muskies rallied for five runs off of two homers and six hits in the fifth inning to take the lead for good.
“It was a kind of a short fence to left and right field and that hurt us,” Frein said.
The Greyhounds hit got a rare homer from Clint Ripley, who is normally a pitching specialist in the game.
“He fouled off a lot of pitches before hitting one out,” Frein said. “It was pretty cool to see him go yard, he usually doesn’t hit much.”
The Greyhounds’ game scheduled against Madison, Wis. on Friday was rained out.
