Letter: Education program a great step forward for Austin

I recently returned from a trip out of state to find that the Hormel Foundation will be providing free tuition and up to a $1,000 toward books and supplies to Austin Public School and Pacelli seniors attending Riverland Community College. That is a “real” game changer for both the college and the community of Austin. Other than Kalamazoo, Michigan I know of no other community in the United States that has a similar program.
Gary Ray and the Hormel Foundation should be congratulated for taking such a significant step to ensure the future of students graduating from both Pacelli Catholic Schools and the Austin Public Schools. Volunteering 60 hours worth of community service is a wise investment for the students and grounds them in having skin in the game.
Thank you Gary Ray and the Hormel Foundation for taking such a significant step in ensuring that the young people of Austin have a step up in reaching their highest potential. This initiative takes your breath away!
