Court documents state that police received a call on April 3 from Omot’s roommate, who expressed concern about a firearm at their residence in the Key Apartment complex. Officers were given permission to search the apartment and found a 12-gauge shotgun hidden in a tote in a closet.

Due to a prior felony conviction for second-degree burglary, Omot is not eligible to possess a firearm.

Omot is currently at the Mower County Jail awaiting trial on a charge of felony first-degree aggravated witness tampering-causing/threatening great bodily harm to prevent testimony. The charge stems from a May incident in which he and Kuoviy Kwot Omot allegedly assaulted another inmate at the jail who was a witness in Kuoviy Omot’s upcoming attempted murder trial.

Naney Omot will be sentenced on Sept. 27.
