According to the court complaint, Johnson called police at 8:41 a.m. on Tuesday to report that a woman he knew had scratched him in the face before leaving their residence in the 900 block of Third Avenue Northeast. He alleged that she went through his phone while he was asleep and was awakened by her punching him in the face. An officer photographed scratches to Johnson’s face. Johnson also told them the woman had taken his cell phone and his wallet.

One of the responding officers was dispatched an hour later to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin to meet with the woman, the complaint states. The officer observed a bandage over her left eye and was told she had received stitches.

When asked about the assault, she alleged that she went outside to get a cigarette from her vehicle and noticed a glass pipe in the center console. When she confronted Johnson about it, he allegedly got upset and told her to “stop trying to start a fight.”

She then mentioned text messages he had sent to other women and Johnson allegedly started swearing at the woman’s daughter, which resulted in her intervening and pushing Johnson. He then allegedly punched her two to three times, causing the cut above her left eyebrow. She said she grabbed a towel to stop the bleeding and fled the residence with her daughter.

The complaint states officers returned to the residence and found what appeared to be fresh blood on the bedroom floor, a glass drug pipe in the trash container, and Johnson’s cell phone. They allegedly found his wallet in his back right pocket when they searched him.

A review of Johnson’s criminal history shows several prior convictions for assault.

Johnson will appear in court again on July 26.
