Ranzaya Olivia Williams, 22, of Austin was charged on Tuesday in Mower County District Court with felony theft-take/use/transfer movable property without consent.
According to the court complaint, police were dispatched at 3:24 p.m. on Monday to an employee theft call at the Austin Walmart. They spoke to an employee, who said he noticed about $1,600 in cash shortages at cash registers between June 16 and July 7. After an investigation, he determined that the shortages allegedly occurred at registers operated by Williams. He also said he reviewed surveillance footage that allegedly showed Williams taking money from the registers of seven occasions.
The employee spoke to Williams, who admitted to stealing the money, the complaint states. An officer spoke to Williams, who allegedly said she took the money because she was going through hard times and could not pay her bills.
Williams will appear in court again on Aug. 6.
