Daniel “Dan” J. Vagt, 56

Daniel James Vagt was born Aug. 19, 1961, in Rochester, Minnesota, to James and Ronna (Garrett) Vagt. He grew up in Rochester and, in 1974, his family moved to Oronoco, Minnesota. He attended John Marshall High School, graduating in 1979. After graduation, he worked at Pace Dairy in Rochester for a few years before moving to the Twin Cities to attend vocational school for vending repair. On Oct. 19, 1985, known as “the sweetest day,” Daniel married Suzanne “Suzie” Rieck at Galilee Lutheran Church in Roseville, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Austin and was blessed with one daughter, Angela. Dan worked at Quality Pork Processors in Austin for 28 years and also did part-time vending. He was known as a very inventive fix it man and a great problem solver. Dan was a Budweiser man who loved to cook and barbeque and would always take pictures of the food he made. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Austin and enjoyed gardening, watching cooking shows, home improvement, and loved spending time with his granddaughter. Kinsley. Dan will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish Dan’s memory are his parents, James and Ronna Vagt of Oronoco; wife, Suzanne Vagt of Austin; daughter, Angela (Dan) Klingfus of Austin; one granddaughter, Kinsley; brother, Russ (Caryn) Vagt of Rochester; sister, Pat (John) Morris of Harrisonville, Missouri; and sisters-in-law, Cindy Flattum of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, and Jackie (Dan) Nerud of Maplewood, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joyce and Walter Rieck; and brother-in-law, Jason Rieck.

Memorial services will be held at noon on Friday, Aug. 3, 2018, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Patrick Ziems officiating. The Vagt family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
