After a long day of stopping by the polls to cast their ballots during the primary elections, Mower County voters have narrowed down the candidates for two of the county offices on Tuesday.

Commissioner-District 3

Jerry Reinartz, Mower County Board chairman and commissioner of District 3, secured 65 percent of the vote followed by Penra Grimley, with 19 percent of the vote. Reinartz is nearing the completion of his second term as Mower County commissioner, and if he wins the general elections in November, he’d be starting his third term.

“I’m real happy with how the primaries were going here,” Reinartz said over the phone late Tuesday night. “I’m interested in serving another term, and the voters evidently feel that I’m doing a good job and deserve another term. I will not disappoint. It’s gratifying to realize that I done a great job in representing them, and I have the total intention to do the best job I can, not just my district, but for the county. I’m thankful for the voters for showing confidence to possibly serve one more term and I’ll continue to do my best and to give the voters of the county and district the most efficient, economically viable county I can.”

Austin Daily Herald attempted to reach Penra Grimley, but was unable to receive comment by press time.

Duane Felt had suspended his campaign late last week, however, it was too late to withdraw his name from the ballot and received 9 percent of the vote.. Loren Bellrichard placed last with 7 percent of the vote.

County Auditor/Treasurer

In the race for county auditor/treasurer, Scott Felten took the lead in nabbing 47 percent of the vote, followed by incumbent Steve Reinartz with 30 percent of the vote.

Felten expressed his excitement at the lead, and thanked Mower County voters for coming out to the polls and hoped that he’d maintain the lead going into November.

“I’m just appreciative from the voters of Mower County to allow me to advance to the general election,” he sad. “It’s hard to tell with elections, and I was hopeful going into it. I’m getting out and doing some additional campaigning for this November. Thank you again to the voters for supporting me through the primary.”

Reinartz was not available for comment by press time.

Donna Welch finished last with 23 percent of the vote.
