Christopher John Martin, 49, of Austin was arrested Monday night after allegedly trying to flee police during a domestic disturbance call.
According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, officers responded to a call at 9:56 p.m. on Monday in the 1100 block of Fourth Street Southeast. A 52-year-old woman at the residence said she and Martin had been arguing all day and that Martin had pushed her. She did not have any injuries that required medical attention, Krueger said.
Martin was not at the residence at the time.
Police were called again at 11:02 p.m. after Martin returned to the residence, Krueger said. However, Martin fled before police arrived.
Krueger said that Martin returned to the residence at 11:45 p.m. and attempted to flee the police. He was arrested after jumping several fences and running through several yards. A preliminary breathalyzer test showed that he had been drinking, a violation of his probation, according to Krueger.
Martin was taken to the Mower County Jail, where he is awaiting a formal complaint. Possible charges could include fleeing a peace officer by means other than a vehicle, domestic assault and probation violation.
A review of Martin’s criminal history shows prior convictions for DWI and fifth-degree assault.
