Home décor fans can rejoice as Real Deals will be holding a grand opening from Sept. 20-22.
Located at 413 North Main Street in the old Hallmark store, Real Deals is co-owned by Albert Lea residents and friends, Kim Stiernagle and Kim Underdahl.
“Kim (Underdahl) and I have been friends since our kids were little and in grade school,” Stiernagle said. “We were part of PTOs together, all kinds of camping trips together, and our kids grew up together.”
According to Underdahl, both of them were seeking something new.
“We were both aging at 50 and we thought we needed a new fun adventure,” she said. “I was a stay at home grandma babysitting and (Stiernagle) was working and wanted a new adventure too.”
But the idea to open a Real Deals in Austin happened to come along by chance.
“We both love home décor and had visited Real Deals in Mason City and we loved the store,” Underdahl said. “When we found out it was a franchise, we looked into opening one. We’ve been working on acquiring this for over two years.”
First, Stiernagle and Underdahl had to contact Real Deals headquarters based in Twin Falls, Idaho. After getting approved as franchise owners, they had to construct a business plan and receive bank financing. They then had to find a building, which was approved by Real Deals, and get a layout of how the store should look.
According to Stiernagle and Underdahl, the store is laid out to have clocks near the entrance. This is followed by what Stiernagle and Underdahl call “everyday wow,” which consists of the trendy and newest items that will change regularly. After that will be wall signs, a floral market, two VIP walls that will be decorated and changed on a weekly basis, mirrors, kitchen, and industrial farmhouse sections.
“We have furniture pieces, shelving, bookcases and dressers,” Stiernagle said. “We have all kinds of signs. We’re going to have a great selection of artificial flowers in our flower market. We have our own line of candles. Every holiday and season, we’ll have a change.”
“We will also have boutique clothing from extra small to 3X for women,” Underdahl added. “It’s trendy, everyday fashion for every age.”
Real Deals will open at 10 a.m. on Thursday. The store will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
“There is a constant change and promise of something new (at Real Deals),” Stiernagle said. “We’ll constantly be getting new, affordable things that are nice quality.”
“It’s the boutique feel, but with individualized attention to every customer so you can come in here and relax and feel like it’s a place to unwind and shop,” Underdahl said. “You get that homey feel without the expensiveness.”
“There is no high pressure,” Stiernagle added.
