Take in a Wednesday flick

Do you love movies? Do you have $5?
Why not come have the ultimate movie experience at the Historic Paramount Theatre during our $5 Wednesday movies? We bring in classic films that you love and play a matinee (3 p.m.) and an evening show (7:30 p.m.) every Wednesday. Add in Austin’s best popcorn, popped in the original 1940s era popcorn kettle, and you’ll be making movie memories.
In October, we start with a Marx Brothers movie from 1937, “A Day at the Races,” starring Groucho Marx as a veterinarian masquerading as a doctor in a sanitarium on Oct.3. Of course, hilarity ensues.
Next it’s the 1956 classic sci-fi horror flick “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” on Oct. 10. Will star Kevin McCarthy save his town from alien pod people? Oct. 17 will feature the 1993 Disney movie “Hocus Pocus” starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as a coven of witches seeking immortality.
More spooky thrills will be on Oct. 24 with “Little Shop of Horrors” (1960), a comedy-horror featuring the most famous cinematic plant, a venus flytrap hybrid with a thirst for human blood. Finally, it will be a horror-filled Halloween as 1968’s zombie flick “Night of the Living Dead” takes the screen.
November movies continue on a sci-fi trend with 1982’s neo-noir film “Blade Runner,” directed by Ridley Scott and starring Harrison Ford on Nov. 7. Next, on Nov. 14, watch British POWs thwart their Japanese captor’s efforts to build a bridge in “The Bridge on the River Kwai” (1957).
Bring the kids to enjoy a sweet movie, “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” (1971) on Nov. 21. It stars Gene Wilder and will have your sweet tooth aching.
Finally, the Nov.28 movie is “Rebel Without a Cause” (1955). A movie tagline of the day explains the plot: “Jim Stark (played by James Dean) … a kid from a ‘good’ family — what makes him tick … like a bomb?”
Plan ahead for our December titles: Dec. 5 is “Muppet Christmas,” Dec. 12 is “Elf,” Dec. 19 is “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” and Dec. 26 is “The Music Man.”
No advance tickets. Purchase tickets at concessions 30 minutes prior to showtime.
