Efforts are being made to contact the owner of a school bus that was taken Wednesday evening.

According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, a full sized cream-colored Chevy school bus was taken between 10 p.m. and 11:27 p.m. on Wednesday from an alleyway in the 800 block of Fourth Street Northwest. The bus was there for mechanical repairs and the mechanic reported it missing.

The owner lives in Waseca and the mechanic is trying to contact him through Facebook, which he told police is the only way he has to contact him.

Krueger said the owner has to be contacted before the bus is declared stolen.
