Keith Fleming, former principal of alternative programs who was named supervisor of the Bank School during the second semester of 2007-08, has resigned, effective June 30.

Fleming, who has been with Austin High School 11 1/2 years, has taken an assistant principal of alternative programs position in the Worthington district.

“I have two daughters who will be a junior and senior at the (Austin) high school, so this was a very painful decision,” Fleming explained Friday. “Professionally, it was in my best interest to pursue other options.”

Fleming will be joining Paul Besel, former Banfield Elementary principal who is now principal at Prairie Elementary in Worthington.

Calling Besel a “quality person to work with,” Fleming said he is “very excited” to continue his work in alternative programs.

Austin High School assistant principal David Reaves will now administer the Bank School as well, said Chris Picha, director of human resources, on Thursday morning.

Jason Senne, interim dean of students at Ellis Middle School, will move to the Austin Area Learning Center to become assistant principal July 1, Picha confirmed. Current ALC principal Ron Prybelski will return to his position as dean of Ellis next school year.

The district decided this year they would eliminate the principal position at the ALC and replace it with the assistant position; Austin High School principal Brad Bergstrom’s duties will include administration of the ALC.

Prybelski served as ALC principal for the second half of 2007-08 only.

Fleming also served as dean of students, assistant principal, and three years as principal of alternative programs at AHS.

Senne’s contract and Fleming’s resignation are on the agenda for approval at the school board meeting Monday night.
