Letter: An Appeal to Independent Voters

To most Southern Minnesotans, Washington, D.C. is a far away place. We may not always feel like our voice, our vote really matters. This election it does. That is exactly why President Trump visited earlier this fall. As many as 30 – 40 percent of our populous in District 1 are diehard Trump supporters very much interested in seeing his extreme agenda railroaded through congress. They essentially want their congressperson to be a rubber stamp for the president. The President picked Rochester because he sees Jim Hagedorn as that rubber stamp: someone who will not investigate him or call him to task. Dan Feehan is a moderate and independent-minded alternative. The U.S. House of Representatives may be the only body of government able to slow down and demand compromise from, as well as investigate, the Trump Administration. The Supreme Court now has a conservative majority and the U.S. Senate will most likely stay in Republican control. Our District 1 congressional race is one of just a few “swing districts” in the country that will decide which party takes control of the House. Our choice is very clear: Jim Hagedorn would be a rubber stamp for President Trump (as he made very clear during the President’s visit) or Dan Feehan, someone who has served his country, taught in an inner-city school, and displays strong character and moral judgment. Take the time to learn more about Mr. Feehan. The contrast is clear and your vote matters.
