Letter: Bachman takes that extra step

I will cast my vote for John Bachman to lead the Mower County Sheriff’s Department for the next four years. Yes, I am voting for a deputy that not only has served, patrolled, and progressed up the ranks in Mower County, but for a deputy that takes the extra steps in caring for the people he serves. My experience with John Bachman was through the auditor’s forfeiture of property to the State of Minnesota. It is that one forfeiture that has left an indelible mark on me about the concern John has for people.

It was on a cold winter day when the county needed to evict a veteran from his home. In the eviction process, John Bachman, performed as expected, he properly cataloging the veteran’s possessions and securing the premises. What John Bachman did next exceeded any performance expectations of a law enforcement officer. The veteran wasn’t to be found. With no home to return to for shelter, John Bachman looked for the former owner of the property, found him and secured him an apartment. It was John Bachman who found this man temporary housing, helped him or provided contacts for him to apply for past Social Security and veteran benefits. That veteran, living in an unheated home with no water or electricity, was able to celebrate the new year with the creature comforts we all expect living in Minnesota.

What is telling about this is that John Bachman picked up the ball and performed a good deed. John Bachman took the extra step and went out of his way to help this homeless veteran.  John Bachman performed for this veteran, Mower County and you. He will continue to work and serve you in his next deserved role for you as county sheriff. John Bachman will be a great sheriff and will not disappoint.
