The pre-trial for Darrell James Wigham, 30, of Austin was reset by the Mower County District Court to Feb. 15 during a hearing on Friday. The jury trial has been rescheduled to Feb. 25.
Wigham is currently facing charges of three counts of felony attempted first-degree murder-premeditated, three counts of felony attempted first-degree murder-with intent while committing a felony and felony first-degree arson, stemming from a March 7 incident in which he allegedly set fire to the residence at 304 11th Ave. SW while three people were inside.
The three individuals told police they had seen Wigham earlier that morning dousing a doorway with paint thinner and threatening to burn down the house.
He is also awaiting trial on charges of felony theft of a motor vehicle, felony theft of movable property, and gross misdemeanor possession of stolen property for allegedly stealing his roommate’s car as well as felony fourth-degree assault on a correctional employee after he allegedly assaulted an officer at the jail.
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
This is not the first time Wigham’s trial has been delayed. Wigham’s trial was originally scheduled for July 23 with a pre-trial on July 13; however, the defense requested that more time be given for further investigation.
The Herald reached out to the Mower County Attorney’s Office to find out why the trial was again delayed, but did not receive a response by press time.
