Ronald Laverne Soiney, 90

Ronald Laverne Soiney, 90, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2018, at St. Mark’s Living in Austin.
Ronald was born on Aug. 13, 1928, in Burr Oak, Iowa, to Oscar and Georgia (Gilbert) Soiney. He attended school in Iowa and Austin. In 1945, Ronald enlisted into the United States Air Force, serving until his honorable discharge in 1947. On June 6, 1948, he was united in marriage to Jane Bisbee at the First United Methodist Church Parsonage in Austin. Together the couple had four children, Steve, Mike, Kevin and Kathy. Ronald worked for Hormel Foods in Austin for over 37 years, retiring Dec. 31, 1982. Shortly after his retirement from Hormel, he entered into a partnership with his son, Kevin, in 1983 as owners of George’s Pizza in Austin. In 2004, he sold his share of George’s and continued to help out until 2013. Ronald belonged to American Legion Post 91 and the Eagle’s in Austin. He liked to ride horses, especially his Arabian “Lady.” He rode horse until he was about 80 years old. Ronald also enjoyed hunting, fishing Canadian “fly ins,” playing his guitar, and dancing. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his sons, Steve (Dee) Soiney of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Mike Soiney of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Kevin (Nancy) Soiney of Austin; seven grandchildren, Susannah (Erik) Brekke, Andrew (Ann) Soiney, Zachary (Kate) Soiney, Brittany (Dan) Swanson, Jennifer (Adam) May, Daniella Belongia and Cole Soiney; six great-grandchildren; brother, Bob (Luella) Soiney of Austin; sister, Mickey (Henry) Quam of Austin; sister-in-law, Jan Soiney of Arizona; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Georgia Soiney; wife, Jane Soiney, in 2010; daughter, Kathy Soiney-Bundy; brother, Richard Soiney; and sister, Jean (Earl) Sanders.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Pastor Dale Christiansen officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Woodbury Cemetery in Lyle, Minnesota.
