Letter: A well-deserved ‘thank-you’ to Riverland Theatre

I want to congratulate the Riverland Community College Theatre Department on their choice of plays and musical theater over the last few years.
I attend a lot of theater in the Twin Cities so I am used to an eclectic variety of options. At RCC last season alone … “Avenue Q.” It was the first time I’d ever seen it and it was hilarious. “Seven,” a development project by the staff and actors, “She Loves Me,” a musical that was delightful and I’d never seen before and saw later that year at the Guthrie, and “RUR (Rossum’s Universal Robots),” an experimental choice that Austin isn’t used to, which is too bad as it was excellent and really gave me something to think about.
To me, theater isn’t about the usual standbys and fluffy entertainment, but about experiencing new things and ideas. Fluffy is good once in a while too.
Thank you for “Miracle on 34th Street.” Thank you to Lindsey Williams, Susan Hansen, and everyone else involved in making these choices. Job well done.
