Charlotte Mae Himmler, 82

Charlotte Mae (Ecklin) Himmler, 82, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, with her husband, Bill, at her side.

Charlotte was born July 17, 1936, to Wellington and Mary Ecklin in Atlantic, Iowa; the youngest of six children. Her mother passed away when Charlotte was 15 and soon after, she moved to Austin to live with her older brother, John.  She graduated from Austin High School in 1954 and met Victor William “Bill” Himmler at an Austin bowling alley.

Bill and Charlotte were married Aug. 27, 1955. They moved to West Des Moines, Iowa, after Bill graduated from Dana College. They adopted two sons, Kurt and Bruno. After spending a few years caring for her young boys at home in Ottumwa, Iowa, and Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Charlotte began working as a secretary at Good Samaritan Society. In 1990, Bill and Charlotte moved to Independence, Kentucky, where they lived until 2018. In Kentucky, Charlotte worked at Highland Crossing until she retired in 2000. Charlotte was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Florence, Kentucky. She sang with Sweet Adelines during her time in South Dakota.

She was a very loving mother and grandmother; family meant everything to her. Charlotte and Bill returned to their roots, settling in at Cedars of Austin in July 2018.

Charlotte was a kind soul who spread love and good cheer to all she met. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
