The Same Day Clinic is located in Clinic North on the second floor, moving out of its current Urgent Care space next to the Emergency Room. Those who need the Same Day Clinic will enter the main medical center entrance and take the first elevators to the second floor.

“The Same Day Clinic will offer the same great care to patients aged three months and older and will be co-located with the family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics care teams to provide improved care options, such as appointments,” said Dr. Michael Ulrich, M.D. Primary Care Division Chair for Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea and Austin. “Having our Same Day Clinic providers near our other care teams will ensure our patients receive the right care, at the right time and in the right location.”

Although the move seemed sudden, Ulrich stated that this transition has been part of conversation for several years, following similar models that were implemented at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea back in 2016, and other campuses such as in Owatonna and Red Wing.

Having the Same Day Clinic would also improve health care by offering preventative health maintenance at the time of a patient’s visit at the Same Day Clinic to keep them healthier in the long term. If someone needed to return to the clinic following the same-day visit, patients can schedule a follow-up appointment with a member of Mayo’s care team.

“This makes for more alignment in efficiency,” Ulrich said. “We have found that Albert Lea really likes this.”

For those who are seeking treatment, the Same Day Clinic will be offering treatment for the following conditions:

  • Colds and flu, including: fevers, coughs, sore throats and earaches
  • Sprains, strains and simple fractures
  • Scrapes and cuts
  • Minor burns
  • Skin conditions including rashes, poison ivy and insect bites
  • Vomiting and diarrhea
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Minor allergic reactions

Entrance to the Same Day Clinic is through the main entrance.

Starting Wednesday, Feb. 6, the Same Day Clinic (formerly Urgent Care) will be open on the Second Floor Clinic North.
