Evalyn E. Hartson, 98, of Rochester, Minnnesota, formerly of Waltham, Minnesota, passed away Friday, April 12, 2019, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester.
The oldest of four children, Evalyn Elizabeth was born Dec. 19, 1920, at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin, Minnesota, to LuVerne and Dorothy (Syck) Pike. In her youth, she was a faithful member of Brownsdale First Baptist Church. She attended grade school in Brownsdale, Minnesota, and graduated from Austin High School in 1938. Evalyn married Dale W. Hartson on Dec. 2, 1939, in Northwood, Iowa. They farmed in the Waltham area and raised six children. Family was important to her and she loved spending time with them. She also enjoyed quilting and embroidery. She was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church in Sargeant, Minnesota, and later in Brownsdale.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale, in 1988; son, Gene M. Hartson; son-in-law, Donavon Hachfeld; three grandsons, Brent, Zachary and Micah Hachfeld; a great-granddaughter, Roberta Faulhaber; brothers, LuVerne “Bud” Pike and Joe Pike; and sister, Carol Anderson.
Evalyn is survived by her children, James (Jane) Hartson, Waltham, Judith Hachfeld, Minnetonka, Minnesota, Randal (Wanda) Hartson, Sargeant, Jane (Tom) Kadlec, Rochester, and Janet (Rich) Flack, Rochester; daughter-in-law, Deanna Hartson, Stewartville, Minnesota; grandchildren, Debra (Craig) Pesch, Hayfield, Minnesota, Lori (Brian) Rouhoff, Hayfield, Teresa (Erick) Enger, Zumbrota, Minnesota, Jeffrey (Kerri) Hartson, Stewartville, Kirstin (Kurt) Stalnaker, Rochester, Julie (Ed) Horne, Sargeant, Leanne (David) Clasen, Austin, Cheryl Hartson (Wayne Atkinson), Los Angeles, California, Jamie (Chris) Lerma, Dallas, Texas, Samantha (Klaus) Alberts, Mantorville, Minnesota, William (Dawn) Hachfeld, Apple Valley, Minnesota, Barrett Hachfeld, Minnetonka, Jonah Hachfeld, Minnetonka, Joshua Hachfeld, Laurel, Maryland, Faith (Dan) Frein, Seattle, Washington, Drew (Rachel) Hartson, Brownsdale, Lily (Keenan) Watkins, St. Ann, Missouri, Jacob (Ashley) Hartson, Brownsdale, Anthony (Angela) Kadlec, Rochester, Tyler (Rachel) Kadlec, Rochester, Jordan Hauer, Rochester, and Amanda Flack, Madison, Wisconsin; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jackie Pike; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Rev. Wane Souhrada officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Waltham Cemetery.
