Dorothy V. Kruger, 93, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie.
Dorothy Viola Harber was born on June 27, 1925, in Bancroft Township, Freeborn County, Minnesota, the daughter of Thomas Earl and Viola Emelyn (Selstad) Harber. Dorothy lived in the Blooming Prairie area all of her life and attended Blooming Prairie High School, graduating in 1943. Dorothy was united in marriage to Russel B. Kruger on Dec. 21, 1944, at First Lutheran Parsonage in Blooming Prairie. Together they raised five children, Larry, Keith, Anita, Steven and Laura. Dorothy and Russel lived and farmed with the Harbers until 1950, then moved to their own farm in Newry Township, Minnesota, where she enjoyed the many aspects of farm life. Church was very important to Dorothy and she was a member of Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school, Bible school, served as memorial secretary for 18 years and was actively involved in the quilting group. She lovingly made quilts for each child baptized at the church. Even in her 90s, she created as many as 70 quilts a year for church, family and friends. She was a wonderful cook and baker and anyone that stopped by the farm was sure to get a good meal and a tin of cookies to go. She enjoyed mowing her lawn, tending her garden and helping on the farm. Above all, Dorothy loved her family dearly. She will be missed.
Survivors include her children, Larry (Jane) Kruger of Rochester, Minnesota, Keith (Lana) Kruger of Blooming Prairie, Anita Kruger of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Steven (Laura) Kruger of Keller, Texas, and Laura (Greg) Seward of Champlin, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
