The Southland baseball team (7-2 overall) swept Rushford/Peterson (4-5 overall) on the road with wins of 11-0 and 9-5 Wednesday.

The Rebels cruised in the first game with a strong five-inning performance from Kody Retterath, but Retterath had to make a second appearance in the second game to get a save.

With the Rebels leading 6-5 in the top of the sixth inning, R/P had runners on second and third with one out when Retterath relieved starter Mitch Heimer and pitched his way out of the jam.

“Kody only threw 56 pitches in the first game, so I knew we could bring him back in,” Southland head baseball coach Scott Retterath said.

Southland got some insurance by scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth. The seven-inning game was the first full length contest the Rebels have played in their last four contests and their first win of the season in seven innings.

“A seven inning game is a long time and you’ve got to play all seven innings,” Retterath said. “It was nice to see we could do that and it’s good to play a full game.”
