• Make Austin a leader in economic development growth while focusing on adding quality paying jobs and tax base enhancement.

• Make Austin and attractive community that values public programs/amenities an protection of our natural resources that ultimately enhance the quality of life.

• Make the protection of Austin’s tax base, preservation of existing housing and improving livability in Austin neighborhoods a priority.

The council will also recognize the promotion of Austin Police Sgt. Jeff McCormack to lieutenant during the meeting.

Administrative Services Director Tom Dankert will begin discussions with the council on the 2020 budget during the work session following the meeting. Items to be considered include the 2020 tax levy, staffing issues and capital requests. The budget process begins under the assumption the council wants the same programs and staffing levels from 2019, though that may change.

The council is required by law to have a proposed budget and tax levy submitted to the Minnesota Department of Revenue by Sept. 30. After that date, the proposed tax levy may be reduced, but not increased.

The council’s next regular meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, June 3, in the Council Chambers located in the basement of City Hall. The work session will take place in the conference room across the hall from the Council Chambers immediately following the meeting.
