Two individuals were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries after being involved in vehicle accidents on Friday and Sunday.

The first accident occurred at about 4:27 p.m. on Friday in the 79000 block of 265th Street in Frankford Township. According to the Minnesota State Patrol accident report, a 2006 Mazda CX-3 was eastbound on County Road 2 behind a 2014 Peterbilt Semi Truck/Trailer. The Mazda attempted to pass the semi when it collided head on with a 2015 Toyota Highlander. The collision sent the back end of the Toyota into the side of the semi.

The Mower County Sheriff’s Office, Spring Valley Fire and Ambulance and Grand Meadow Fire and Ambulance all responded to the scene.

The Toyota’s driver, Roxanne Lisa Eberle, 53, of Stewartville was transported to Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus-Rochester with non-life threatening injuries. The Mazda’s driver, Andrew J. McShane, 29, of Cannon Falls, and the semi’s driver, Mark Ivan Miller, 52, of Parkersburg, Iowa, were uninjured.

The second accident occurred at about 3:29 p.m. on Sunday on Fourth Street Northwest in Austin near the Interstate 90 westbound entry ramp.

According to Austin Police Capt. Todd Clennon, a 1999 Mercury Tracer was exiting Interstate 90 onto Fourth Street Northwest on the westbound ramp when the brakes gave out. After swerving to miss several cars, the Mercury entered the intersection on a red light, striking a vehicle in the center southbound lane and causing it to strike another vehicle.

The Austin Police and Fire Departments and Mayo Ambulance responded to the scene.

No life-threatening injuries were reported, though one driver complained of back pain and another complained of facial pain, Clennon said. One driver was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System-Austin; Clennon did not release the name.

The Mercury’s driver, Donald Weber, 64, of Iowa told police he was hoping to avoid other cars and land in the ditch to stop. He was cited for failure to stop at a traffic control signal.
