Teens injured in Friday accident

Two teens were transported to Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus-Rochester after sustaining injuries in a Friday evening vehicle accident.
According to Mower County Chief Deputy Mark May, the accident occurred at about 6:15 p.m. Friday in the 15000 block of 535th Avenue in Lyle Township. The vehicle had been traveling southbound on 535th Avenue when it left the road, entered a ditch and turned sideways before striking two trees on the driver side of the car.
The responding deputy had to use a crowbar to pry the doors open, May said.
The Minnesota State Patrol, Lyle First Responders, Mayo Ambulance, Adams Ambulance and Lyle Fire Department also responded to the scene.
The driver, a 16-year-old female from Lyle Township, and passenger, a 16-year-old male from Austin, were in a state of shock and unable to answer questions, May said. The driver was transported to the hospital by Mayo 1 helicopter while Mayo Ambulance Service transported the passenger.
