Family fun at the Motokazie: Farrell brothers hit the track

It was a family affair at the Motokazie Supercross Series Tuesday night at the Mower County Fair.

But then again, it’s always a family affair when bikers from the same community put their health on the line for the love of sport and competition. Amy Mullenbach of Austin was watching her sons Izaak Farrell, a student at Lyle High High School who is 16 years old and Bentley Farrell, a Southgate Elementary student, who is seven years old, on the track Tuesday night.

While she was cheering on her boys, Amy said that all of the racing families watch out for each other.

“This is a moto community and everybody watches out for everybody,” Amy said. “If someone is missing a part and they need to race, everybody is there to help. It’s a lifestyle. It’s not just a sport.”

Bentley has had a big summer on his bike as he currently is in first place in the 50cc oil injected 4-8 years old division and the 50cc multi-speed division at Spring Creek in Millville.

Bentley started riding a bike when he was four years old as he followed in his big brother Izaak’s footsteps.

He’s had one tough fall at Spring Creek this summer, but it hasn’t kept him off the bike for a second.

“It’s good. It’s not scary,” Bentley said. “I went to the other side of the track (at Spring Creek), but I just wanted to get back on the bike.”

Izaak grew up looking up to Nate Kohnke of Austin, who now races as a pro rider. The first time Izaak rode on a track was at Kohnke’s house.

Izaak has had a strong summer and he looks forward to events like the Motokazie, where he gets to ride in front of a lot of familiar faces.

“I like here a lot because you’ve got all of your friends and family here,” Izaak said. “I’m mainly just trying to keep it on two wheels out there. Sometimes it gets slippery.”
