A night of art: Primrose holding art session with Tyler Quitmeyer

Aspiring artists who want to learn some more techniques are invited to Primrose Retirement Community on Tuesday evening to attend A Night of Art with Tyler Quitmeyer, Austin High School’s 2019 Artist of the Year.

According to Primrose Sales Director Johnathan Repoyo, the event was made possible thanks to a connection from Primrose Life Enrichment Coordinator Christy Haag, whose children went to school with Quitmeyer.

“(This event) shows our seniors that the youth of Austin still care and they want to donate their time and talent with them,” Repoyo said.

The event is slated to start at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, in the community room on Primrose’s second floor. Quitmeyer will demonstrate his techniques, then assist participants as they paint. All ages are welcome to attend, though Repoyo did say that alcohol will be provided for adults for free.

In addition to being the AHS 2019 Artist of the Year, Quitmeyer also won the 2019 Minnesota Duck Stamp Contest. His colored pencil drawing “All American” won the Congressional Art Competition and is currently on display at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

“If you like art, though you may not have the best skills but want to have a fun night, you are welcome to come and be a part of something fun,” Repoyo said.
