A Tuesday blow: Storms whipped some interesting weather earlier this week, including at least one tornado

The area received quite the surprise Tuesday evening. With only a slim chance of storms and showers predicted earlier in the day, things in the afternoon turned out quite different.

Storms quickly blossomed on a thin line north to south from up near the Twin Cities all the way down to Mower County. At least one tornado was reported during the outbreak and hail the size of ping pong balls and quarters was also reported.

While the system seemed to have spun its way out south of Austin, the conditions still threatened more severe weather.

A band of the storms that had earlier produced tornados near Ellendale span across the skies north of Corning.
