Michael Reeder Doran, 69, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019, in Hartsville, South Carolina.
Mick, as he was affectionately known by many, was born Sept. 30, 1949, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Dr. Joseph K. and Doris (Gustin) Doran. He was a graduate of Orange High School in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. In 1976, he married Deborah Bissen at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin, Minnesota, and together they raised a daughter, Ryann, and a son, Ben. His professional career in retail distribution took Mike and his family to many cities, including Minneapolis, Minnesota, Grapevine, Texas, Fort Smith, Arkansas, and Hartsville.
In his retirement years, he continued to stay active – running, volunteering, and working as a groundskeeper at Kalmia Gardens. Mick could talk about baseball, history and politics for hours. He loved dogs, especially his beloved English Springer Spaniel, Lucy, and was happiest at family get-togethers.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Bissen Doran; daughter and son-in-law, Ryann Doran Imhulse and Brian Imhulse, Atlanta, Georgia; son, Benjamin Doran, Washington, DC; brothers, Richard Doran (Susan), Denver, Colorado, Joseph Doran (Carlotta), Concord, North Carolina, and Peter Doran (Melissa), Ely, Minnesota; mother-in-law, Mary Bissen; in-laws, Daniel Lecon, Deann Suchomel, Marcia and Dave Petersen, Greg and Joan Bissen, Tom Bissen, David and Kathy Bissen and Lisa Bissen; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Michael was preceded in death by father and mother, Dr. Joseph Doran and Doris Doran; sister, Sally Lecon; brother, David Doran; and father-in-law, Benno Bissen.
Celebrations of life will be held at a later date in Hartsville and Minnesota. In lieu of gifts, please consider donating to the Kalmia Gardens at www.kalmiagardens.org/donate or the English Springer Spaniel Rescue at englishspringerrescueamerica3.wildapricot.org/Donate.
