Just when the area might have found a little break from the wet season, Mower County will be under a flash flood watch throughout the day Tuesday and into Wednesday.

According to the  National Weather Service in La Crosse (NWS) reports, the county is under flood watch starting at 7 a.m., through the night and ending at 7 a.m. on Wednesday. Showers and thunderstorms will be ongoing throughout the day, with new rainfall amounts reaching between 1 to 2 inches.

The evening doesn’t appear to fair much better, with showers and possibly a thunderstorm coming through the evening, with rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. Wednesday, there’s a possible of precipitation adding less than a tenth of an inch possible, with another tenth of an inch possible on Wednesday night.

Tropical moisture from both the Gulf of Mexico and Northeast Pacific will move through the area from today into Wednesday morning, with rain totals of 1 to 3 inches with locally higher amounts possible along and south of the Interstate 90 corridor. Soils have already been saturated from 3 to 5 inches of rain last month.

Mud and rock slides are also possible in bluff areas, according to NWS reports.

Those traveling are warned to pay attention to the road, and if there is high water, turn around and find another path to the destination. Do not attempt to drive your vehicle through high water.
