The Austin Public Library will be hosting the discussion “Arts & Culture: A Proven Growth Industry for Rural Communities” at noon on Thursday, Oct. 24.

Attendees can learn about the Fine Arts Commission in Winona from Winona City Manager Steve Sarvi and Winona Arts and Culture Coordinator Lee Gundersheimer. Austin’s art scene and the new Culture and Arts Commission, set to begin in January, will also be discussed.

“By forming a city-based Culture and Arts Commission, Austin can leverage the thriving arts scene with access to additional grant dollars and resources,” said Austin Area Arts Executive Director Laura Helle. “Our neighbors in Winona have led the way in a similar initiative.”

The discussion is free and open to the public.

“We want all those who are interested in community growth to come and learn more about Winona’s success and how Austin can grow our economy through arts and culture,” Helle said.
