Ronald E. Groh, 84

Ronald E. (Ronnie) Groh, 84, of Austin, Minnesota went to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2019, at Mayo Clinic Hospital-St. Marys Campus-Rochester.
Ron was born June 11, 1935, to Stanley and Selma (Gibson) Groh of Austin. He graduated from Austin High School with the Class of 1953. In the same year, Ron was baptized on March 29 at St. Olaf Church. After graduation, he continued working as a carpenter for Groh Construction Co. before attending Austin Junior College. Later, he worked as a clerk for Red Owl Grocery Store. On Oct. 6, 1953, he entered the Minnesota National Guard. Ron served both as a light/heavy weapons infantryman for the Combat Support Company, Second Brigade, 135th Infantry Regiment. He received the State of Minnesota Good Conduct Medal and was discharged on May, 27, 1959. Ron then worked for over 10 years selling Marigold Food products to 1,700 customers before working for Hormel Foods Corporation for 20 years as a machine operator. After Hormel, he returned to carpentry and masonry work, often working with Delmar Ellis Construction. Throughout these years, he worked intermittently on various road projects in Mankato, Minnesota, Owatonna, Minnesota, and Austin for Gary Groh Construction Company. The two homes Ron built for his families were along the Cedar and Turtle Creek Rivers. He enjoyed remodeling three other homes. Ron enjoyed talking to people, tending to his Marquette Grape Arbor, canning, cooking, fishing and going on drives. he often honked the car horn as he passed a familiar friend.
Ron is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas (Rita) Groh, Austin, Ryan (Heather) Groh, Owatonna, and Aaron (Kristy) Groh, Lakeville, Minnesota; daughter and son-in law, Dawn (Paul) Legried, Austin; brother and sister-in-law, Gary (Rose) Groh, Austin; sister and brother-in law, Carol (Roger) Bender, Fremont, Nebraska; and grandchildren, Kevin, Megan, Tristan, Emma, Hana and Grace. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley A. Groh in 1975 and Selma (Sally) Groh in 2005; and most of his friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, 2019, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Rev. Richard Hegal officiating. Visitation will be he held for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by Olaf B. Damm VFW Post 1216 and Austin American Legion Post 91. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
