Austin junior Logan Kelly may have been in four first place events for the Packers, but he’s still looking to get faster as Winona beat Austin 93-87 in Bud Higgins Pool Thursday.

Kelly took first in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 50-yard freestyle and he was on the 200-yard individual medley relay team and the 400-yard freestyle relay team that took first, but he wasn’t able to set the pool record in the breaststroke.

“We usually get pretty excited, because our top guys have a bunch of competition with their top guys,” Kelly said of the matchup with Winona. “Grant (Wolner) and I have been fighting back in the breaststroke for the past three years now. I was a little disappointed when I saw he wasn’t swimming breast tonight, but it was a good night.”

Jeff Herczeg of Winona broke two AHS pool records as he swam the 100-yard freestyle in 46.74 seconds and he led the 200-yard freestyle with a 50-yard free record of 21.55 seconds.

Earlier this season, Kelly set the pool records for the 100-yard breaststroke medley in Owatonna and Mankato East. He swam a time of 58 seconds in both meets. He swam a time of 58.8 seconds on Thursday, which is just .8 seconds short of AHS’s pool record.

“I’ve been having lot of fun with the season so far,” Kelly said. “I’ve been trying to get as many pool records as I can in the breast.”
