Fishing for a Cure was this past Saturday at East Side Lake. Proceeds for the event, as with every year, go to support cancer research at The Hormel Institute.

There are many other Paint the Town Pink events which you may enjoy. You can check them out on line at The Hormel Institute site at www.hi.umn.edu and click “for Pink” at the top of the page. This will take you to a calendar of events. Thank you to all who support this campaign!   

Packer Arena public skate dates/times

Sorry, but there is a hockey tournament this weekend at Packer Arena. Watch for available times again following Feb. 2. These will also be posted on the department’s Facebook page.

Riverside Arena game schedule

There is a tournament at Riverside Arena this weekend. The Austin Bruins’ next home game is Saturday, Feb. 8 for the annual Paint the Rink Pink match-up, this time versus the St. Cloud Blizzard. Make certain to get your tickets soon.

Cross country skiing

Cross country skiing conditions are finally prime at the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center. Check ahead for times through either their website at www.hormelnaturecenter.org/ or by phoning (507) 437-7519.

Part time work

Park and Rec is accepting applications for many part-time job openings for ages high school and older. Opportunities include park maintenance, municipal pool lifeguarding, swim lesson instruction, and concession vending/admissions sales, flower watering and flower care, gardening, coaching and officiating. You can check the city web page at www.ci.austin.mn.us for employment openings, as they’ll be listed there soon. You can also print an application from this same website.

Snow parking

Ticketed or towed for violating the snow ordinance this past week? If it is snowing or did snow within the past 24 hours, please make certain to keep tabs on whether a snow emergency is in effect. If in doubt, check to see if one is in effect. You can look up details on where to park (and where not to park) during such an event at www.ci.austin.mn.us/Engineering/Snow_Ord.pdf.

Warming house hours are as follows:

• Kaufman (at Eighth Street & 11th Avenue Southeast): 6:30-9 p.m., Monday-Friday; 1-5 p.m. and 6-9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday

• Galloway (at Eighth Street & Second Avenue Southwest): 6:30-9 p.m., Friday; 1-5 p.m. and 6-9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday

• Skinner’s Hill (at Ninth Place & Fourth Street Southwest): 6:30-9 p.m., Friday; 1-5 p.m. and 6-9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday
