Letter: A worry of a weaker Medicare
Published 3:30 am Saturday, February 8, 2020
I am one of the millions that looked forward to turning 65 when Medicare would be my healthcare plan. I was envious of the benefits my husband had under Medicare. We both paid into Social Security and Medicare all of our working days. Now we live on a fixed income and it is necessary to look for ways to save money. Medicare helps us live comfortably. However, Rep. Hagedorn’s votes cause worry that Medicare will be weakened.
Medicare Part D benefits need to be strengthened so seniors don’t have to pay exorbitant out-of-pocket costs to get the medications they need. We can do this by fully closing the coverage gap and allowing Medicare to negotiate directly with drug companies, but Hagedorn voted against the House bill that would lower our drug costs (you can read the bill here and see the roll call vote: www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-bill/3/text). I will vote for Dan Feehan. I know him and trust that he will fight to protect and strengthen Social Security and Medicare benefits for our seniors in southern Minnesota.
