The Austin Greyhounds took full advantage of host Owatonna's hospitality Sunday night, destroying the Aces 10-1 in Southern Minny League play.
They started scoring early and didn't let up, as everyone in the lineup scored or drove in at least one run. The 'Hounds also outhit their opponents 14-4.
Clint Ripley (3-2) turned in another double-digit strikeout game for the 'Hounds, fanning 11 in a complete-game victory.
"He was mowing 'em down tonight," said Austin shortstop John Frein.
The big news however was the hitting prowess of Bryant Olsen. Pressed into service at the last minute, the Austin manager made his 2003 debut with a standup double to the gap in left in the first inning.
"I had to get the guys going," said Olsen of his blast. "Now I can tell them to go start hitting."
He promptly removed himself from the game in favor of Matt Cano before he had a chance to play the field in the bottom of the inning.
"I got off the field as soon as I could, put away my bat, and let them take over from there," said Olsen.
Owatonna was able to keep pace with Austin through one inning thanks to some wildness from Ripley, who walked four batters and hit two more in the game. An RBI single by Owatonna's Moenhauer, the only hit of the inning, made it 1-1.
The 'Hounds would break the tie with two runs in the third and fourth innings. Things got out of hand in the seventh, thanks in large part to a bases-clearing triple from Frein.
Matt Raso led the hitting assault, going 4-for-5 with a double and a run scored.
Tate Cummins had a double to go along with two runs scored and another driven in, while Nick Rohne had two RBI's and two runs scored. Craig Selk was 2-for-5 with an RBI and Jamie Morrison scored three times after going 1-for-3.
Austin is now 14-6 and 4-0 in SML play. They travel to Chaska tomorrow before returning home to Marcusen Park for a rematch with the Aces Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
