It appears we have hit a turning point. With more and more Americans becoming increasingly worried about the well-being of our economy and livelihoods, it is clear that we need to put an end to this unprecedented era of quarantine. The proverbial cure is now worse than the disease. It is obvious to point out that we cannot continue this voluntary shutdown for much longer.
Luckily, there are leaders in our government like Rep. Jim Hagedorn, who has continually supported the overall strategy of President Trump to re-open the economy as soon as we can. Rep. Hagedorn is right when he says we need to reassess the situation based on the facts. Some places can be opened earlier than others — southern Minnesota is not like New York City. Not only are the livelihoods of our farmers and businesses, large and small, at stake, but our hospitals, medical facilities, and the patients that need consistent care are at stake as well.
With a -25 percent GDP growth, our country and state cannot sustain under these circumstances. I applaud Mr. Hagedorn and his push to re-open main street Minnesota.
I hope Gov. Walz listens to people like Congressman Hagedorn.
