Kathleen “Gootie” Wiste, 91, of Adams, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus-Rochester.
Kathleen Marie was born Sept. 19, 1928, in Adams to Nordeen and Marion (Kirtz) Lewison. She attended Sacred Heart Grade School in Adams and graduated from Adams High School. She was a loving mother and housewife. She worked at the Adams Locker and LaVonne’s Grocery Store for many years. She was a nurse’s aide at the Adams Health Care Center and worked for 14 years at Sacred Heart Adult Day Care. She also styled hair for many years at the Adams Funeral Home under Walter Kinder and Clasen-Jordan.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Council of Catholic Women and was a volunteer with AHCC Auxiliary. She had a love for music and enjoyed playing the bass drum in JJ’s Pickup Band, participating in many parades, and she liked to sing and yodel. Gootie was a good cook and was known for her homemade chocolate brownies and frosting and her famous pea salad.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nordeen and Marion Lewison; husband, Dave Wiste; infant son, John; great-granddaughter, Faith Sathre; brother, Eugene Lewison; sister, Rosalind Reinartz, sisters-in-law, Harriet Lewison and Barbie Lewison; and grandson-in-law, Troy Jech. Gootie is survived by her children, Sandra (Jon) Shaw of Dexter, Minnesota, Susan (John) Sathre of Adams, David (Ellen) Wiste of Adams and Jane (Marvin) Juenger of Adams; grandsons, Brian (Angie) Shaw, Craig (Katie) Shaw, Jason (Lori) Shaw, Ryan (Anna) Sathre, Kevin (Jill) Sathre, Eric (Amanda) Wiste, Jesse (Tammy) Wiste, A.J. (Lori) Wiste, Chad (Tauna) Juenger and Tim Juenger; granddaughters, Michelle (Glen) Lonergan, Vickie (Jay) Ernste and Jenna Juenger; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; brother, Richard “Bud” Lewison of Brownsdale, Minnesota; sisters, Sister Joan Lewison of Rochester, Minnesota, and Connie (Bob) Irvin of Rose Creek, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Nicholas Reinartz of Adams; sister-in-law, Alice Wiste of Adams; and nieces and nephews.
A private service will be celebrated with Father Swaminatha Pothireddy officiating and interment will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Adams. Memorials are preferred to Sacred Heart Catholic Schools. The Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
