Memorial Day Weekend 2020 was the deadliest since 2010 with eight fatalities in six crashes on Minnesota roads, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

The victims ranged in age from 16 to 85 years old and consisted of six males and two females. One crash was alcohol-related, two were speed-related, and two victims were not wearing seatbelts.

Law enforcement arrested 292 drivers for DWI, down from 393 during 2019 Memorial Day Weekend.

Preliminary numbers show 108 traffic fatalities have occurred so far in Minnesota this year. Of those:

• Five died in distracted driving-related crashes;
• 32 died in speed-related crashes;
• 26 died in alcohol-related crashes;
• 27 were not wearing seatbelts;
• 14 were pedestrians;
• Two were bicyclists; and
• Eight were motorcyclists.
