The Minnesota Department of Health confirmed on Monday that a second Mower County resident has died from COVID-19.

According to Mower County Health and Human Services Division Manager Pam Kellogg, the individual tested positive on May 11 and had been hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit for several weeks. The individual was in their late 60s and had underlying health conditions, Kellogg said.

The county’s first death was reported on May 19.

Cases over the weekend rose by 64 from Friday, when the count was 254 cases. After Tuesday’s report, the total is now 354 cases since March 19.

The MDH also reported on Tuesday that there have been 25,508 cases in Minnesota since March 6 and 1,072 deaths since March 21, including 866 among residents of long-term care or assisted living facilities.

Throughout the state, 537 are currently hospitalized with 248 of those in intensive care.

Cases in surrounding counties include: Dodge (53), Fillmore (17, 1 death), Freeborn (130), Olmsted (650, 10 deaths) and Steele (164).
