After three years out west, Austin native Both Gach is coming back to Minnesota.

Gach, a transfer from Utah, announced on his twitter page that he is going to commit to the University of Minnesota to play basketball for the Golden Gophers.

“I would love to give a huge thank you to all the schools that took the time to recruit me, but at this time I’m excited to commit to the University of Minnesota and join coach (Richard) Pitino and his staff,” Gach tweeted. “Excited to be back home.”

Gach, who played his senior season at Arizona Compass Prep after playing for the Packers, has two years remaining of college eligibility.

Gach, a 6-6, 183-pound guard, played in 57 games in two seasons for the Utes and averaged 10.7 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 40 percent from the field, 25 percent on three-pointers and 78 percent on free throws this past season for the Utes.

Gach will now join forces with DeLeSalle alum Gabe Kalscheur, who helped the Islanders beat Austin in the 2017 Minnesota Class A State Tournament title game.

The Gophers went 15-16 overall last season.
