Minnesota saw another uptick in cases of COVID-19 Thursday, but two key numbers that have been eyed as important benchmarks remained low.

The Minnesota Department of Health reported 387 new cases and 19 newly reported deaths, bringing the total number of state cases to 31,675. There are now 1,344 deaths from COVID-19 with a majority, 1,064, coming from long-term care or assisted living facilities.

However, the number of those people requiring hospitalization and ICU care remained even at 345 and 171 respectively. These two measurements are considered by health officials as two of the most important measures in terms of the disease’s spread in Minnesota.

In Mower, after a spike of 72 cases on Wednesday, there were just 11 new cases reported Thursday, bringing the total to 744 since March 19.

Per capita, Austin has the second highest rate of COVID-19 cases behind Nobles County in southwestern Minnesota, which has 1,621 cases. Minnesota Public Radio, in their analysis, reported that roughly 1-in-14 people in Nobles has tested positive for COVID-19.

Cases in neighboring counties include: Dodge (61), Fillmore (22, 1 death), Freeborn (240), Olmsted (832, 13 deaths) and Steele (181).
