Olgar P. Dalen, 83

Olgar Phillip Dalen, 83, of Austin, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Fieldcrest Care Center, Hayfield.

He was born Nov. 7, 1919, in Waltham Township, to Oscar C. and Stena (Kyllo) Dalen.

Olgar graduated from Austin High School in 1938 and worked at Hormel Foods until he served his country in World War II, enlisting in 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa. He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal and Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal.

On Aug. 7, 1943, he married Lyla Beadle in Austin.

After his discharge from the Army on Dec. 29, 1945, in Camp McCoy, Wis., Olgar returned to Austin and moved to Hayfield where he operated an auto repair business until 1950 when he went to work for A & S Parts and Machine, retiring in 1984.

He spent the past two years at Fieldcrest Care Center in Hayfield.

He belonged to the VFW and St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lyla Dalen, Austin; son, Dennis Dalen (Karen Stearns), New Hope; daughters, Erna (Tom) Syzdek, Minneapolis; Janet Dalen, Bloomington; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Jane Sieversen, Grand Meadow; Olive Felton, Austin; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Barb Haeny; and son-in-law, Don Smith.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. today, June 19, 2003, at the funeral home and Friday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 2 p.m., Friday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roberta Flood officiating.

Interment: Grandview Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216.

Funeral Home: Worlein Funeral Home, Austin.

Memorials: To Alzheimer's or American Cancer Society.

Patricia A. Chapek, 69

Patricia A. Chapek, 69, of Austin, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center.

She was born Sept. 14, 1933, in Austin, to Richard and Freida (Douglas) Downs.

Patricia grew up in Austin and, in 1951, graduated from Austin High School.

In August 1957 she married Elmer Chapek. They had two sons. The couple divorced in 1984.

Patricia was employed as a veterinarian assistant and worked for various political organizations.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, sang in the Chancel Choir for years, League of Women Voters in Albert Lea and Groundswell, an organization which fought for farmers' rights.

Survivors include her sons, Greg Chapek, Truman; Brian Chapel, Austin; one grandchild; sisters and brother-in-law, Evon and Robert Troester, Austin; Dixie Hanson, Austin; Kathy Anderson, Austin; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Norma Lee Downs.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, June 19, 2003, at the mortuary and Friday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Patricia M. Toschak officiating. Casket bearers will be John Chapek, Chad Williamson, Doug Chapek, Randy Chapek, Ralph Bryant, Willis Hanson, Verne Olson, Jr., Marcus Olson and Robert Dolan, Jr.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Austin.

Funeral Home: Clasen-Jordan Mortuary, Austin.

Memorials: To the American Cancer Society or the First United Methodist Church of Austin.

Rose A. Meyerhofer, 80

Rose A. Meyerhofer, 80, of Osage, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

She was born Jan. 21, 1923, in Wells, to Joseph and Katherine (Fischer) Schmidt.

On April 9, 1947, she married Clemence "Clem" Meyerhofer at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rose Creek. They farmed in the Stacyville, Iowa area until their retirement in 1981, when they moved to Osage, Iowa. Clem died Aug. 15, 1998.

Rose was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was active in the church choir and various church activities. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge and Canasta, baking, and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include daughters, Sister Nancy Meyerhofer, San Diego, Calif.; Arlene (Lowell) Erickson, Kenyon; Bea Young, Altadena, Calif.; Peggy Meyerhofer, Kenyon; sons, Nick (Cheri) Meyerhofer, Flagstaff, Ariz.; Roger (Wanda) Meyerhofer, Owatonna; Ben Meyerhofer, Britt, Iowa; Andy (Liz) Meyerhofer, Osage, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Theresa (John) Heimerman, Blooming Prairie; Catherine Jenkins, Grapeview, Wash.; Alice Bulson, Faribault; Dorothy (Ron) Swehla, Prescott, Ariz.; brother, Ben (Mary) Schmidt, Owatonna.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Carl, George, Joe and Tony Schmidt; sister, Marie Theissen; and son-in-law, James Young.

Visitation: 2:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2003, with a 3 p.m. Rosary and a 7:30 p.m. Scripture Service at the funeral home.

Service: 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Rev. Philip Recker officiating.

Internment: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Osage, Iowa.
