Elizabeth (Liz) Fedie joined The Hormel Institute University of Minnesota in May as the new Chief of Staff. She came to The Hormel Institute from the Masonic Cancer Center, University of Minnesota on the Twin Cities campus, bringing broad grant administration and cancer research management experience.
“We are excited to have Liz join us to help guide and achieve the next era of progress for The Hormel Institute,” said Dr. Ann Bode, Interim Executive Director and previous Associate Director for The Hormel Institute.”Her past experience and passion for developing a strong administrative foundation for faculty and staff will further our mission and expand the impact of The Hormel Institute’s cancer research.”
Fedie’s role is to supervise administrative and operational activities at The Hormel Institute, under the direction of Bode and incoming Executive Director Dr. Robert “Bob” Clarke, who was hired last month and begins Aug. 31. Fedie’s position as Chief of Staff at The Hormel Institute is new, with similar responsibilities previously under the supervision of Bode, who has been at the Institute since 1999 and serving as Assistant or Associate Director since 2001.
Fedie is originally from Nebraska and attended University of Minnesota, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in genetics, cell biology and development. After beginning her career in Dr. Lee Wattenberg’s lab, Fedie discovered a passion for research administration and earned a Master’s Degree in public and nonprofit administration.
Fedie has held administrative leadership positions with the Center for Genome Engineering and the Brain Tumor Program. She most recently held a leadership position at the Masonic Cancer Center as the Research Development Manager.
“I look forward to this next chapter and hope to bring new, exciting and innovative ideas to support the promising research happening at The Hormel Institute,” she said.
