Peck stripped of state golf berth

Southland/Grand Meadow golfer Bryan Peck was denied a berth at the state meet when the Minnesota State High School League ruled for a second tiebreaker playoff to be held, which he then lost.
Peck would not have even had to endure the first playoff had he not corrected an error on the Section 1A scoreboard, which had him at a 78 -- good for a top-five finish and a trip to state. He actually shot a 79, which tied him with five other golfers for the final spot.
Peck then won the five-way playoff on Tuesday for the right to advance after Chatfield's Cole DiLaura had already left the course, thinking his 79 was too high to qualify for the playoff.
After a scoring error was discovered, the MSHSL granted DiLaura's appeal and held another playoff Friday with all six tied golfers.
Three of them were eliminated after one hole, and only Peck and Rushford-Peterson's Matt Reinhardt were left after two holes. Reinhardt came out on top on the third hole though, earning him the trip to state instead of Peck.
The state meet will be held this Wednesday and Thursday at Izaty's Golf Courses near Onamia.
