The Austin boys' tennis team put up a valiant fight against Eagan in the 1AA Team Sections Tuesday. While they did score wins in singles and doubles, the Packers lost two three-set matches that were the difference, as Eagan eliminated them from team competition 5-2.
Kyler Green and Tyler Conway upped their record to 10-3 on the year with a come-from-behind three-set win at No. 3 doubles. After dropping the first set 6-4, they captured a tight 10-8 tiebreaker to send it into the decisive final set, which they won 6-3.
The other stalwart for the Packers this season, No. 3 singles player Dolan Wagner, also won his match, dismissing Alex Kranz, 6-1, 6-2.
Mike Binder capped off a gutsy season as the Packers top singles player by losing in three to Mark Nippert after winning the first set.
Austin's No. 2 doubles tandem of Jack Lynch and Luke Green also stretched their opponents from Eagan to the limit before eventually losing in the third.
The Packers begin the Sub-Section 1AA Individual Tournament a week from Thursday at Farmington.
