Southland senior Matt Breitbarth finished the Class ‘A’ state golf tournament with a solid score in Becker, Minn. Thursday.

Breitbarth shot an 83 to give himself a two-day total of 172, which put him tied for 40th place overall.

Southland head coach Tim Brennan said that Breitbarth actually played a little better on Wednesday, when he shot an 89, but a couple of bad holes hurt him.

“From a golf standpoint, Matt hit the ball better on Wednesday than he did on Thursday, yet he scored better on the second day. Such is the nature of the game sometimes,” Brennan said. “Matt’s played enough golf that he understands the need to stay away from the big holes, which we didn’t do. To his credit, he came back strong on Thursday and came away with a positive experience.”
