Sally was born Sept. 6, 1943, in Austin, Minn., daughter of Duane and Violet (Smith) Buchanan. She attended Austin public schools and graduated from Austin High School in 1961. Following graduation she worked at Jostens in Owatonna. On Aug. 24, 1963, she married Burton Magnuson of Austin at Westminister Presbyterian Church.
